Boat Warriors T-shirt
This design is based upon one of the "Boat Warriors" Petroglyphs from the Nordic Bronze Age (1700- 500 BC) found at Fossum in Sweden. The Fossum panel is just one of a high concentration of petroglyphs at Tanum – near Tanumshede, Bohuslan. The site includes one of the largest carved rocks of the Nordic Bronze Age – the ‘Vitlyckehal’ – in Scandinavia. The ‘Tanum petroglyphs’ represent 1000’s of images on over 600 panels, concentrated in distinct areas along a 25 km stretch which was originally the coastline of a fjord during the Bronze Age.
Many of the male figures at Fossum carry large axes in their hands. These are ceremonial axes that could not be used for work or fighting. The axes and the horns indicate that the Fossum Carving describes one or several rituals that took place more or less at the same time. The scene is surrounded by ships, some of which seem to be travelling west, towards the ocean, and others that seem to be returning. Perhaps these were rituals or celebrations that were held in connections with the journeys
